From The Myth of Merula Philosophy Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Hello, my name is Alice Mountolive, and I am a student of digital archiving. Welcome to this wiki. It is a part of my masters project, which is to archive, here on this Web Site, as thoroughly as possible, the story of the astronaut known as Blackbird. Many of you may only know her as a famous African American woman astronaut. Some of you may be aware of urban legends or conspiracy theories that swirled about her after she retired young, suddenly and mysteriously, to the Dogon country of Mali in Africa, refusing all interviews. There are rumors of alien contact. There are intimations of involvement with the Dulce underground base. Among all the stories, however, we have never yet had Blackbird's story, as told by her.

As a student of digital storytelling and archiving, I am sensitive to issues of narration. I am aware that in every narrative form, there is always a residue left over and left out. This wiki is for the philosophical residue so that it will not be left out, even if it cannot always be included in other narrative streams and other forms of archive on this Web Site. It did not take long before I realized that Blackbird's story is bound to raise philosophical questions at every turn.

Why a wiki? Since this story is unfolding on the Web, why not invite the public to participate? It is possible that many of you may have insights and interpretations that would not have occurred to me, ultimately enriching this archive for posterity, more than would be possible from my insights and interpretations alone.
